Tree #21
Platanus occidentalis

This grand *Platanus occidentalis*, a sycamore of impressive stature, has graced Glen Park for some sixty years. Its distinctive bark and broad leaves offer shade and beauty, with its canopy's glorious summer unfurling a cherished sight. From its rooted position, it quietly absorbed countless stories. It saw the canyon shelter a sprawling refugee camp after the 1906 earthquake, a poignant tableau of human resilience. Later, its enduring presence overlooked the impassioned "Freeway Revolt," as residents fiercely protected their beloved natural space. This magnificent tree is a silent witness, a living chronicle of the neighborhood's unique history and collective spirit, deeply woven into the place.
