Tree #14

Pinus canariensis

This majestic Pinus canariensis, a stately evergreen reaching skyward for three and a half decades, graces the Glen Park neighborhood. Its sturdy presence marks a daily journey for many. Through its enduring branches, it observed the canyon transforming into a sprawling refugee camp after the 1906 earthquake. Later, it witnessed the fierce Freeway Revolt, as community members, including the determined 'Blue Gum Girls,' rallied to protect this precious ravine from concrete overpasses. More than just a botanical fixture, this tree embodies the persistent spirit of a community that repeatedly defended its precious landscape, offering solace and continuity amidst profound change.
