Tree #8
Aesculus californica

On Poppy Lane, a majestic California buckeye, roughly 57 years old, graces an unpaved country road west of Diamond Street. Discovered during a #covidtreetour in October 2020, its grand presence, likely San Francisco's largest, is undeniable even from behind a garden fence. This arboreal elder has rooted deeply, witnessing significant community struggles. It observed residents mount the Freeway Revolt, battling to save their beloved canyon from concrete. It also quietly perceived the neighborhood resist connection to the BART system, striving to preserve its distinct village character. This enduring landmark embodies Glen Park’s spirit, a silent guardian of its unique narrative and steadfast independence.
