In Central Los Angeles, a majestic Phoenix canariensis, around 114 years old, stands as a silent witness to life’s ebbs and flows. This tree has cradled my thoughts during challenging moments, offering solace and grounding. It has seen the completion of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, transforming the region’s water supply, and the rise of vibrant artist communities, shaping our local culture. Through tumultuous decisions and days of reflection, it has remained steadfast, a reminder of resilience. As street culture flourished and jazz music echoed around it, this tree remains a living testament to the evolution of community and creativity.
